First competed in the European Junior Championships in 2012. Won four gold medals at the 2014 European Championships (in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and the 4x100m medley and mixed medley relays) and broke two world records. Became the first Briton to win three gold medals at a single World Championships, in 2015. Broke the world record in the 100m breaststroke, becoming the first person to swim under 58 seconds, at the 2015 British National Championships. Repeated his performance at the 2016 European Championships, once again taking home four gold medals. Won gold in the 100m breaststroke at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, breaking his own world record in the process; later won a silver medal as part of the 4x100m medley relay. Named a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s New Year Honours List in 2017. While Peaty was training at Loughborough University, he met his girlfriend Eirian Edd Munro, a fine arts student at the University.
