Ramachandran better known as Atlas Ramachandran, was an Indian jeweller, film producer and actor. He was the chairman of Atlas Jewellery and is known for the tagline of his jewellery, “Janakodikalude Vishwastha Sthapanam”. He had produced and distributed films under the banner “Chandrakanth Films”. Vaisali (1988) and Sukrutham (1994) are the major films that he has produced. He has also acted in few movies notabily in Subhadram (2007) in a lead role. Ramachandran was arrested in 2015 for a financial fraud case and was released in 2018 after a 3 year imprisonment in Dubai.

Atlas Ramachandran was a famous Indian businessman, jeweler, film producer, and actor. He has been in the news because he died recently in Dubai. His full name is Mathukkara Moothedath Ramachandran. He was born on July 31, 1942, in Mullassery, Mathukkara, Thrissur. His family has a strong literary and cultural heritage. His late father, V. Kamalakara Menon, was a poet. Ramachandran has eight siblings. He did his schooling at the local School of Thrissur. Later, he got a bachelor’s degree in business from St. Thomas College, a Kerala University affiliate in Thrissur. After this, he traveled to New Delhi for finding employment. Later on, he also did a post-graduation in economics from the Delhi School of Economics. He was married to Indira Ramachandran. Together, they both have two children, Dr Manju and Srikanth. By joining Canara Bank, Atlas Ramachandran began his career in banking. Later, the State Bank of India chose him to be a probationary officer. He relocated to Kuwait City in 1974 to work in the Commercial Bank of Kuwait as the International Division’s Administration Manager. After becoming persuaded of the enormous need for gold jewelry, he established the first ATLAS shop in Kuwait’s Souk Al Watya. However, after suffering a huge loss during the Gulf War, he began again in the United Arab Emirates. Under the banner of Chandrakanth Films, he has produced and released several movies. His two most notable works are “Sukrutham” (1994) and “Vaisali” (1988). He has also appeared in a few films, most notably as the protagonist in “Subhadram” (2007).
