P.O’s History with BLOCK B
P.O was originally eliminated from BLOCK B’s audition but he came back one year later after improving his skills and losing 10 kg of extra weight. He finally made it to the final line-up and made his debut under Seven Seasons with BLOCK B on June 23rd, 2011. The band debuted with the song “Freeze” that reminded fans of BIG BANG’s style back then. P.O was filling the position as BLOCK B’s main rapper.
At the beginning of their career, BLOCK B were heavily criticized, especially for their lack of sympathy during a 2012 interview in Thailand where they make jokes regarding the 2011 flood disaster. It even got to the point when there was a petition calling for the members to apologize by committing suicide. This particular accident shocked P.O to the point he reportedly fainted and as a result of the shock had to be hospitalized. But, because of the endless support from BLOCK B’s fans (BBC/Block B Club), P.O released a first song written especially for them. “Dear My Wife” on September 25th, 2012, featuring (previously part of BoM) Winner’s Mino. On top of that, BLOCK B was also involved in a legal dispute between them and their former agency, Stardom, due to the suspicion that the agency CEO took away 70 million won from the members’ parents to fund the group’s production and promotion activities. The issue was finally settled when BLOCK B members terminated their contracts with Stardom and transferred to Seven Seasons. BLOCK B then started to gain their momentum back when they released the single “HER” on July 23rd, 2014.
The catchy song was a huge success as it reached number three on the Gaon Digital Chart. Not only that, other songs such as “Jackpot,” “Extraordinary Woman,” “Hold Me Now,” also got into the top 30. The album even reached rank six in Ladder World Album Billboard and in the position of number two on Stairs Album Gaon. BLOCK B finally held a solo encore concert titled 2014 Blockbuster Remastering on November 22–23 at the SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium, Seoul. Their first concert attracted as many as 10,000 fans in two days. On April 13th, 2015, P.O debuted and participated in BLOCK B’s first subunit, Bastarz, along with members U-Kwon and B-Bomb through the title track, “Zero for Conduct,” which ranked at #3 on the Gaon album chart. P.O was heavily involved in the album production as he wrote the lyrics for “Zero for Conduct,” “Thief,” as well as the lyrics and composition credit for “Charlie Chaplin,” and “Sue Me.” BLOCK B then resumed with Japanese debut on January 21st, 2015, through the release of the single CD Very Good (Japanese Version). On November 23rd, 2018, a shocking piece of news come from BLOCK B’s leader and front-man, Zico, who decided to leave the agency that had been sheltering him all this time, Seven Seasons, along with the six other BLOCK B members who have extended their contracts with the agency. Re: MONTAGE (2017) is the last album of BLOCK B with the full original formation. The title track “Don’t Leave” was produced by Park Kyung.
There haven’t been any album releases since then as members Jaehyo, Taeil, B-Bomb, and Ukwon enlisted in the military. Meanwhile, as BLOCK B’s future comeback is still undecided, P.O is currently active as a solo artist, as an actor and rapper.
