Moon Ga-young and Cha Eun-woo’s Roles on True Beauty

In 2020, the rumor about the drama production titled True Beauty began to run around. True Beauty itself is lifted from a very popular webtoon and has another title, The Secret of Angel.  The story is about a woman who looks amazingly beautiful when wearing makeup. But, her face looks 180 degrees different when her makeup is removed. The drama version of True Beauty is directed by Kim Sang-hyub, who previously directed The King Loves and Extraordinary You. The script was written by Lee Si-eun who previously wrote Rude Miss Young Ae. Of course, after hearing the rumors, many fans began to speculate who would play the lead characters of Im Joo-kyung and Lee Su-ho. Even before Cha Eun-woo’s confirmation regarding the role of Lee Su-ho, many people were saying that he fits the role perfectly. The reason was because of his striking resemblance to the webtoon visual. Cha Eun-woo was indeed the first actor who was reportedly approached to star in this drama. The character that is given to him is the male lead, Lee Su-ho. Su-ho is a handsome male ex-idol at school and a class star. But, he showed no interest in the women who approached him. In April, the news about his involvement in the drama was confirmed by his agency Fantagio Entertainment. “Cha Eun Woo has received an offer to star in the drama True Beauty and he is currently considering his offer,” they said. Sometime later, Moon Ga-young was also approached to play Im Joo-kyung, the makeup enthusiast who can change her face 100% with the help of makeup. “Moon Ga Young received an offer to star in tvN’s latest drama True Beauty and is considering this offer positively,” said Moon Ga-young’s agency, KeyEast Entertainment. Not long after getting the offers, both stars accepted the roles. Thus, this marks the first time that they worked together in a drama and as a couple on top of that! Aside from Cha Eun-woo and Moon Ga-young, the drama also stars Hwang In-yeob as Han Seo-jun. The three of them played the dynamic of a love triangle between friends and frenemies. And, the three of them delivered the role perfectly, and the fans approved of their portrayals.

Moon Ga-young and Cha Eun-woo’s On-Screen Moments

In the drama, Moon Ga-young and Cha Eun-woo played the characters of friends who become lovers. So, it is no wonder that there are many heart-throbbing moments between them! Im Joo-kyung (Moon Ga-young) and Lee Su-ho (Cha Eun-woo) first met in a strange circumstance when Su-ho thought that Joo-kyung was gonna kill herself (although she was not). Upon the first meeting, Joo-kyung was smitten by Su-ho’s unreal visual. Compared to him, Joo-kyung always felt inadequate by her face, and she’s always trying to cover it (either with glasses or makeup). Meanwhile, Su-ho is a cold guy who rarely shows interest in girls. After their first meeting, the two finally bond over their love for sci-fi comics and begin to develop a friendship. Joo-kyung also felt comfortable around Su-ho since he’s the only one who knows her true face. Thus, she doesn’t feel the need to hide. Su-ho got comfortable around Joo-kyung since she is his only close friend. Over time, the two friends begin to develop feelings for each other. Their love story begins to blossom when they attend a picnic held by the school. While going back and forth to express their feelings, it turns out that the two have the same feelings. Together, they learn how to grow through life’s challenges through love Suho showed his genuine love for Joo-kyung regardless of her true appearance when she is barefaced. He thinks that Joo-kyung is sweet and friendly. On the other hand, Joo-kyung also manages to break Su-ho’s cold attitude because of her kindness. She also taught Su-ho to be calm and not lonely. At first, Su-ho is in a stage of denial regarding his love for Joo-kyung. Although, he loves to give her his undivided attention whenever they spend time together like that time when he pats her head when they are spending time in their signature book cafe. Or, that time when he gave her THAT stares (you know what stare we’re talking about, right?) Su-ho also showed his affection by trying to comfort the sad Joo-kyung in episode 13. Despite being a cold guy, somehow Su-ho is always what she needs in her difficult times. When Joo-kyung looked really annoyed as she hugged the pillow tightly against her chest, Su-ho bent down to match her eyes. Then, he stared at her with warmth and affection. After that, he tried to be cute so that she would no longer be mad. He makes cute poses as he stares at her sweetly. Finally, she gave him a smile.

He finally realized his love after he is jealous of the development of Joo-kyung’s relationship with Seo-joon (Hwang In-yeop). He then confesses his love to her, and the two begin to date. However, the romance between them doesn’t last long as Su-ho leaves South Korea to meet his sick father. But, thankfully, the two reunited after two years of being apart. The drama took a different path and ending from the webtoon version (seeing that the webtoon is still not finished). However, it seems like fans are satisfied with the happy ending between the two.
