She has a younger brother and an older sister. She can play the triangle and tambourine. Exy trained for 8 years. When she became a Starship Entertainment trainee, she was originally a vocal trainee but the agency changed her to rap. Exy really loves the R&B genre, and she wants to sing R&B songs. Her favorite R&B artist is J.Cole. Exy appeared in the web drama The Flatterer. She writes her own raps. She is close to LOONA’s Yves, and they are from the same hometown. She describes herself as a sweet person. Her dream is to have a duet with Eric Nam. Exy appeared on King of the Mask Singer as the Daring Woman. Exy’s Debut With Cosmic Girls
Cosmic Girls (also known as WJSN) is a group consisting of 13 members that was formed by two agencies from different countries, South Korea and China. The agencies are Starship Entertainment and Yuehua Entertainment. This group debuted in 2016 with the mini-album Would You Like? alongside the two title tracks “Mo Mo Mo” and “Catch Me” wherein this group Exy got a position as the main rapper, sub-vocalist, and leader. Cosmic Girls then made their debut stage by performing on Mnet’s weekly music program named M! Countdown on February 25, 2016. And here is the performance of Exy and group for the first time on M! Countdown!
Before the official debut, the two agencies that oversee Bona and her group revealed their members by forming 4 sub-units and each unit consists of 3 to 4 members. The units name Wonder, Joy, Sweet, and Natural. Exy along with Soobin and SeolA are members of the Sweet unit, which this unit announced on December 24, 2015, as the 3rd Cosmic Girls’ sub-unit after Wonder and Joy.
Appearance in ‘Unpretty Rapstar’
Before debuting with Cosmic Girls, Exy was a contestant in a famous reality survival rap program named Unpretty Rapstar 2. This program was aired in January 2015 on Mnet, where the program is a rap competition specifically for female rappers, both of who are already in groups or solo. Exy became a participant in Unpretty Rapstar 2 when she was a trainee at Starship Entertainment, but unfortunately, she had to be eliminated in episode 8. EXY has graduated from Dongduk Women’s University
Despite being an artist or idol, of course, education is still an important thing and number one for Cosmic Girls members, including Exy. Previously, Exy attended the School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA) and graduated in 2013. Then, she continued her education by studying at Dongduk Women’s University and majoring in Broadcasting. Exy graduated on August 25, 2020, along with former PRISTIN and I.O.I member, namely Nayoung. Then, in August 30, 2020 Nayoung posted a photo of herself with a graduation certificate on her personal Instagram @nayoung_lim95, and Exy commented by writing ” “We should have taken a photo together” with a sad emoji. Then Nayoung says “Exactly”. The two of them couldn’t celebrate their graduation due to conditions that made it impossible to meet face to face, because everybody had to do physical distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. And, Exy celebrated her graduation day with a tart and “Grad Congrats” balloons on the wall.
Exy Covering Monsta X’s Alligator
Singing a song from other idols is not something new for K-pop idols, even they also perform by sing and dances from other group songs at special events or during their concerts. This is also done by the group led by Exy, namely Cosmic Girls (WJSN). Cosmic Girls sang the song from their senior group, Monsta X, and did a dance of Alligator with attractive and energetic choreography. Cosmic Girls performed it on June 28, 2019, on a weekly music program called Music Bank, and their performances made everyone’s eyes fall on them. All members perfectly succeed to evoke a cool image typical of Monsta X by showing their performances. The members wore masculine costumes, especially the rappers Exy and Eunseo turned into perfect combination rappers like Monsta X’s I.M and Jooheon. So, here are the performances of Exy and the group!
