When he was a child, he wished to be an actor. S. A. Chandrasekhar (Indian film director, producer and writer) brought him into the film industry. Shankar is considered the Steven Spielberg of Indian Cinema owing to his history of making big-budget films. His two films; Indian (1996) and Jeans (1998), were nominated to the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Shankar has been the highest paid director in Indian Cinema. Most of his career, he has primarily worked for Tamil Cinema. He is the only Indian director to have zero flops to his credit. Shankar has directed 12 movies collaborating with musical maestro A.R. Rahman. Shankar is the only director who has worked with most of the Tamil superstars including Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Vikram, and Vijay. His science fiction movie 2.0 is the most expensive Indian film to date with an estimated budget of ₹500 crore. Shankar was born on 17 August 1963 in Kumbakonam, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu to Muthulakshmi and Shanmugam. He completed his diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Central Polytechnic College before entering the film industry. He was roped into the film industry as a screenwriter by S. A. Chandrasekhar, who accidentally saw the drama stage shows made by Shankar and his team. Though he wanted to be an actor, he chose to be a director instead and became one of the leading directors in Indian Cinema. Vidwan S. Shankar is a famous karnatic singer, disciple of his mother Smt.Rajamma Sastry and also of Smt.Nagarathna bai & Smt Vallabham Kalyana sundaram. As a performer for over four decades, he is one of the main artists of A.I.R & Doordarshan. Shankar, or simply Shankar, is an Indian Tamil film director who has directed big-budget films such as Kadhalan and Boys. Both Jeans and Indian received Academy Award nominations for Best Foreign Language Film. He began his career as an assistant to S. A. Chandrasekhar and Pavithran, among others. Gentleman, his first film, won the Filmfare Best Director Award. Easwari Shankar, his wife, gave birth to two children. Senapathy and Chandra Bose starred Kamal Haasan and Chandra Bose in his 1996 flick Indian. Viruman is the film produced by Suriya and Jyotika has Karthi in the lead and will be directed by Muthaiya. Actor Suriya and Jyotika’s 2D Entertainment will bankroll the upcoming entertainer Viruman starring Karthi in the lead. To be directed by Muthaiya who has previously worked with Karthi in Komban, the film is tipped to be a family entertainer, said Suriya on Twitter and unveiled the first look poster. Interestingly, the film marks the debut of filmmaker Shankar’s daugther, Aditi, who will be pairing opposite Karthi as the leading lady. Sharing a photo of Aditi Shankar from the film, Suriya wrote, “A very warm welcome to Aditi Shankar! You are going to win everyone’s heart. God bless.” Also starring Prakash Raj, Raj Kiran and Soori, Viruman will have music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and is expected to release in 2022. Meanwhile, Karthi is currently shooting for Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan. The actor is expected to start work on Viruman later this month.
