Wonder Girls

First off, let’s start with Wonder Girls! For those of you who are familiar with the Korean single Nobody, you might also recognize Wonder Girls, as well, since they’re the group responsible for the popular song. Wonder Girls was formed under JYP Entertainment and made their official debut on February 13, 2007,by releasing the minialbum The Wonder Begins. Previously, Wonder Girls had already held their showcase debut on February 10, 2007. Not only that, they were the first girl group to come from JYP Entertainment! Wonder Girls originally had six members, Yeeun, Hyerim, Sunmi, Sunye, Sohee, and Hyuna. In 2007, Hyuna left the group because of health issues and was replaced with Yubin. In 2010, Sunmi also decided to leave the group because she wanted to pursue her solo career and academics. Then, in 2015, Sunye and Sohee decided to left the group, as well. According to Kpop Wiki, the name ‘Wonder Girls’ came up from the DC character Donna Troy’s original title. Meanwhile, the name of the group’s fandom is Wonderful, and pearl and burgundy are the fandom’s colors. Wonder Girls made a breakthrough in success with the hit single Nobody in 2009, and the song also marked their debut with doing a song in English! Nobody gained a lot of attention, even leading Wonder Girls to become the first K-Pop group to be ranked on the Billboard chart. One of the fun facts about the girl group is that they traveled with the Jonas Brothers’ World Tour in 2009 as their supporting act. Through Nobody, Wonder Girls presented themselves using the concept of a Motown girl group, with an infusion of 1960s-era sound. Nobody was produced with three different versions, sung in English, Japanese, and Mandarin! In addition to Nobody, Wonder Girls have released other singles that became hits, such as Irony, So Hot, Tell Me, Why So Lonely, Be My Baby, and many more. Wonder Girls demonstrated their level of excellence by winning several prestigious awards at events such as the Golden Disk Award, Mnet Asian Music Awards, and others. Sadly, the girl group ended their journey when they disbanded in 2017 after releasing their latest project, Draw Me earlier in the year. Miss A

One of the oldest girl groups in South Korea who was born under JYP Entertainment was called Miss A! If you are a long-time fan of the Korean Wave, you’re probably familiar with the group, especially Suzy, who is currently known as a popular actress! The group started its debut in July 2010, releasing the hit single Bad Girl Good Girl! Miss A had four members, Fei, Jia, Min, and Suzy. Through Bad Girl Good Girl, Miss A became the first K-Pop group to have a single debut at the top of music charts. In 2010, the song became the best-performing single of the year, putting it at the top of the Inkigayo music chart! One of the fun facts about Miss A is that they first debuted in China. That also the reason why Miss A used to be called the “Chinese Wonder Girls.” The name ‘Miss A’ comes from the group’s intention to be ‘A-class’ for everything they do, which would make them the best in Asia. Their official fandom name is Say A. For their group concept, Miss A had the girl-crush image with slightly sexy overtones, which can be clearly seen in their music video The girl group is also well known for their powerful dance-pop music, which is very popular among their fans. It’s no wonder that Miss A received a lot of awards and nominations at events such as the Bonsang Awards, Mnet Asian Music Awards, Seoul Music Awards, Golden Disk Awards, and many more! Some of their best singles include Hush Hush, Good Bye Baby, Touch, I Don’t Need A Man, Love Alone, Only You, and many more. Unfortunately, Miss A disbanded in 2017. Part of the reason for their disbandment was because of the departures of Jia and Min in 2016, which left the group with only two members. TWICE

One of the biggest girl groups in South Korea, TWICE, was also born under JYP Entertainment! The group officially debuted in October 2015 with the mini-album The Story Begins! The official debut of TWICE was highly anticipated since the group was formed from the winners of JYP Entertainment’s survival show, SIXTEEN. Nine of the SIXTEEN contestants were selected to be members of the group, Jihyo, Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu! Originally, TWICE was scheduled to debut with seven members, but the CEO of JYP Entertainment decided to bring back Tzuyu and Momo. Tzuyu became really popular when she was on SIXTEEN, and he thought that Momo would be an imperative part in TWICE, as well. One fun fact about TWICE is that several of the members in the group came from different countries! Even though some of the members are native Koreans, some of them are foreigners, such as Tzuyu, who came from Taiwan, and Sana, Mina, and Momo, who all came from Japan. Another fun fact about TWICE is that they always release special versions of their albums! Each of their singles from the albums are also released in Thai versions, which is very unique because most people would assume the releases would be Japanese or Mandarin versions. The special album versions are followed by CDs, photo cards, posters, and DVDs, as well! ONCE is the official fandom of TWICE. What does TWICE mean, and what is their group concept? According to their agency, the group was called TWICE meaning “Once through the ears and once through the eyes.” Since their first appearance, the group has used a cute and girly concept. Each of the members appears with a feminine style, colorful outfits, and cheerful vibes. TWICE has demonstrated their high level of achievement through hit singles such as Like Ooh-Ahh, Likey, Knock Knock, What Is Love, Fancy, YES or YES, Dance The Night Away, Heart Shaker, and many more! Not only that, they have received a lot of nominations and awards, such as Female Group Award, Best Selling Artist, Artist of the Year, and others. Those wins have come from a variety of international award events such as the MTV Europe Music Awards, Spotify Awards, and some Japanese award ceremonies, as well! ITZY

The latest girl group to debut under JYP Entertainment is ITZY! Even before their official debut, there were a lot of people who were already anticipating the group’s appearance. ITZY has five members, Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna.The group made their debut on February 12, 2019, with the single album IT’z Different, with the single track Dalla Dalla. The single Dalla Dalla also had a music video, which was viewed more than 13 million times within 24 hours! Mostly, the ITZY members were already involved in entertainment industry, previously. Ryujin came from JTBC’s survival show MIXNINE in 2017-2018, Chaeryeong competed on the show K-Pop Star 3 in 2013 and SIXTEEN in 2015, Yeji was on SBS’s The Fan, and Yuna appeared on Mnet’s reality show Stray Kids, as well. Lia had never been seen in the industry before, and was JYP’s ‘secret weapon.’ ITZY’s official fandom name is MIDZY. In Korean, the name MIDZY means ‘trust,’ and means that ITZY and their fans trust each other. Meanwhile, for the girl group’s concept, JYP Entertainment explained the meaning and word slogan behind them. According to Kbizoom, IZTY means “You have everything we have, right? Of course”. The word 있지 in Korean means “To have,” as well. The group has an empowering theme with ‘fierce’ and ‘confident’ vibes. Even though they just debuted recently, ITZY has already received a lot of awards and nominations! They won as 2019’s Rookie of the Year, 2019’s Female Rookie Idol of the Year, 2019’s New Female Artist, 2020’s New Artist Award, and many more!
