Career

In 2016, Woojin debuted as a member of the boy group The East Light. He halted his promotions with the group to appear in Produce 101 Season 2. When the show was over and he was eliminated, he returned to his group to continue the group’s promotions and activities.

Produce 101: Season 2

In 2017, Lee Woo-jin joined the Mnet survival music program Produce 101 Season 2 as one of the competitors. Produce 101 Season 2 was a 2017 boy group survival reality show on Mnet. The public “produces” or known as ‘national producers’ choose 11 members among 101 trainees from 54 entertainment companies through online voting and live voting with multiple elimination rounds to form a boy group. The public also chose the group’s concept, debut song, and group name. In the final episode of Produce 101 Season 2, which was broadcast live, the show announced the final 11 members who would debut as members of a new boy group under the name Wanna One. More than 16 million people cast their votes during the finale, equivalent to around 30% of South Korea’s population.

During the survival program, Lee Woo-jin was the youngest participant from Media Line Entertainment. He auditioned the program by performing the song “Baby” by Justin Bieber.

In the first mission of the program, the trainee performed the theme song of the show “Pick Me or Nayana.”

For the second mission which is group performances in front of a live audience, Lee Woo-jin performed “Be Mine” by INFINITE.

For the position evaluation mission, Lee Woo-jin performed “Spring Day” by BTS alongside other trainees.

Bromance With Kang Daniel

During the survival music program Produce 101 Season 2, Lee Woo-jin was really close to his fellow participant Kang Daniel. As the youngest participant, Lee Woo-jin stole Kang Daniel’s attention with his adorable personality. After his friendship with fellow Produce 101 Season 2 contestant Kang Daniel became a touching highlight of the show for many viewers, Lee Woo-jin talked about his relationship with the older trainee.

In an interview, Lee Woo-jin said, “It’s true that I’m close with Kang Daniel, but I didn’t know it would be called a ‘bromance.’” He also said, “The power of editing was strong. It was thanks to him that the public found out more about me. I’m very grateful to him.” “But surprisingly, I don’t contact Kang Daniel very much,” continued Lee Woo Jin. “Because neither of us looks at our phones a lot.”

The East Light

The East Light was a South Korean band formed by Media Line Entertainment. The band originally consisted of six members, who made their official debut with the single “Holla” on November 3rd, 2016.

The East Light consisted of six members: Sagang, Woojin, Junwook, Eunsung, Seokcheol, and Seunghyun. Discography: On July 26th, 2017, the band released their Extended Play Sixth Sense. The Extended Play consisted of eight tracks: “I Got You,” “Happy Day” (기분 좋은 날), “You’re My Love” (Tropical Mix), “Love Is…” (사랑은…), “My Love” (내사랑), “Holla Original Mix,” “I Am What I Am” (나는 나) Tropical Mix, and “I Got You” acoustic mix.

On November 3rd, 2016, the group released their first single. The album consisted of four Tracks: “Holla” (홀라), “I Am What I Am” (나는 나), “Holla” (홀라) instrumental, and “I Am What I Am” (나는 나) instrumental.

On May 18th, 2017, The East Light released the single album “You’re My Love” that consisted of “You’re My Love” Tropical Mix, “You’re My Love” Rock Mix, and “You’re My Love” Acoustic Pop Mix.

On July 13th, 2017, the group released another single album “Love Is…“ (사랑은…) (Woojin & Sagang).

The East Light released their single album Real Man (레알 남자) on January 18th, 2018. The album consisted of three tracks: “Real Man” (레알 남자), “Don’t Stop,” and “너와 둘이.”

Scandals & Controversies

In early October 2018, two members of The East Light, Seok-cheol and Seung-hyun spoke out about abuse allegations and filed a lawsuit against their agency, Media Line Entertainment.

On October 18th, 2018, news outlet XSportsNews reported allegations of physical and mental abuse against members of The East Light by a producer, while the CEO of the agency, Media Line Entertainment watched the abuse and did not do anything about it. Member Seokcheol held a press conference on October 19th, 2018, confirming the abuse allegations. Media Line Entertainment issued an apology but denied some of the allegations made by the media. On October 22nd, 2018, Media Line Entertainment announced that they terminated the contracts of members Eunsung, Sagang, Woojin, and Junwook, to restrict and prevent future complications with the lawsuit and allegations. However, no confirmation about the official disbandment has been made.
