Beauty Standards Of Female K-Pop Idols

South Korea has strict beauty standards for female K-Pop idols. It is not unusual if we often see them so skinny and with fair skin. Most of them have a v-shaped jawline, big eyes, small lips, fair and flawless skin, straight eyebrows, slim posture, and so on. There is also an aegyo sal, which is a small amount of fat under the eyes, to make them look younger. To become an idol, some Koreans are brave enough to do plastic surgery in order to meet these standards. although not many of them will admit it to their fans, afraid they might be judged harshly. As we all know, some Korean netizens are very strict when it comes to judging these idols. for example, Kyla, from the girl-group Pristin, was often judged for her figure. People attacked her with comments like “What was Pledis thinking? Why did they debut this kind of thing? There are truckloads of prettier, skilled, and more desperate girls.” It was very rude and harsh, Thankfully Kyla did not respond to these kind of comments. The standards, themselves, are designed to help create a perfect image for idols, because they are the ones that the fans look up to. Most of the die-hard fans will usually follow their lifestyle, even if it is not good for them. Some fans even dare to do plastic surgery to make them prettier, like their idols. This proves that the Korean beauty standards really do have huge influence for South Korea citizens.

Luna is known for her muscular legs and chubby cheeks. But, due to her extreme diet method, she lost so much weight that it does not look healthy at all. Her fans have even shown their concern about their idol, trying to encourage her to gain weight to look healthy.

Extreme Diet

When it is time for an idol to have a comeback, they usually try to lose weight in order to have a perfect visual on stage. Luna is one of the idols who plans her diet just a week before her comeback stage. It is unhealthy for someone to lose weight in a flash, it can ruin the body’s metabolism and, of course, it is not recommended for common people like us. In one of her vlogs on her YouTube channel, she confessed that she is quick to gain weight, therefore she has to cut her carbohydrate intake to make her body stay slim. In some of her vlogs, she shared her experience in extreme dieting, which have included only drinking  2 large bottles of water with sliced lemons and green tea for a week, or eating only 350 grams (12.5 oz) of raw vegetables. When doing such extreme diets, she is still maintaining her activities and even doing some exercise. It is not healthy for her to force her body to do so much without proper nutrition. So, it is not recommended for those who want to lose weight. Instead, it is highly suggested to eat nutritious meals and do proper exercise. On that note, we cannot lose weight in such a short time, unless we are terminally ill.

Weight Loss Tips

On Luna’s YouTube channel, she shared some tips on how to lose some weight without having to resort to an extreme diet. In the previous episodes, she would give examples on what should she ate while trying to lose weight. In some episodes, she explained how to make her legs smaller by massaging and bandaging them. In the video below, when she massages her legs, she recommends a lotion to make the massaging easier. Luna had been doing this to herself regularly, especially when it was close to her comeback stage.

Beside massaging her legs, she also suggested a hot cream for belly fat and a lemon balm drink to lose weight. In the video below, she shows how to massage her stomach while applying the cream. Viewers should be careful in applying the hot cream, because it takes time to feel the heat. She also recommends wrapping the stomach with plastic wrap for a doubled effect.

Diet Workout

An extreme diet is not an option for us because it only does harm rather than being beneficial. Consider following Luna’s example for a healthy diet, below. She shows that when she eats breakfast, she eats only a small, balanced portion and eat heavier food for lunch. Besides eating healthy food, working out also helps to maintain a stable metabolism also losing your weight. Usually, she would take a jog or go running on a treadmill. She also does some exercise in the local gym with a trainer. We can follow her example in this video, rather than her extreme diet videos.
