Kim Nam-joon who is popularly known as the leader of Big Hit‘s boy group BTS with the stage name RM is one of the rising K-pop idols currently. Not only does he have amazing dancing, singing, and songwriting skills, but many fans have been inspired by his actions as well. Aside from his activities as a K-pop star, RM also has many relaxing hobbies such as reading, visiting museums, walking, and even bike riding. First on the list, there is a book titled Almond by Won-pyung Sohn, and it is also translated by Sandy Joosun Lee. This is one of BTS’ RM’s favorite books which is a narration about a boy named Yunjae.

Human Acts: A Novel by Han Kang

Next, BTS’ RM also shared that one of his favorite books is a fiction novel entitled Human Acts: A Novel by Han Kang, and it is translated by Deborah Smith as well. RM mentioned the book during one of his live sessions. Human Acts depicts the story of humanity and violence with the set of Gwangju, South Korea, in the 1980s. Aside from that, the book also narrates the condition after the Gwangju Uprising. RM once explained that while he was reading the novel on the plane on the way to Europe, he felt kind of overwhelmed since the author has written the story very well!

The Stranger by Albert Camus

Back in 2016, RM once explained about the book that he read titled The Stranger by Albert Camus. Not only that but he also said that he was inspired by the author Camus.

Demian by Herman Hesse

Back in 2015, RM was once spotted reading a book titled Demian while he was backstage during a music video shooting. Later on, it was revealed that the book was also the inspiration for the group’s WINGS era in 2016. Demian is created by the author Hermann Hesse and narrates about Emil Sinclair, a guy who feels like he doesn’t belong to anything. He has a mysterious friend who is also his classmate named Max Demian. Emil starts to look for the meaning of his life and tries to grow up. Aside from BTS’ RM, the other BTS members have read the book as well.

Please Look After Mother by Shin Kyung-sook

RM also read a book titled Please Look After Mother by Shin Kyung-sook. He and BTS’ V even discussed that during one of their V Live session. Later, it was revealed that the book was recommended by a fan. In this book, the story is written in first-person and second-person points of view. It tells about So-nyo, a woman who gets separated from her husband at a train station. Moreover, the book also tells the story about a relationship, family, guilt, and motherhood.
