George Kusunoki Miller orJōji Kusunoki Mirā, born 18 September 1992), known professionally as Joji and formerly as Filthy Frank and Pink Guy, is a Japanese singer, songwriter, rapper, comedian, and former YouTuber. Miller’s music has been described as a mix between R&B, lo-fi, and trip hop. Miller began his YouTube career in 2011 shortly after moving to the United States, gaining recognition for portraying oddball characters on the satire channels TVFilthyFrank, TooDamnFilthy, and DizastaMusic. The channels, which featured comedy hip hop, rants, extreme challenges, and ukulele and dance performances, are noted for their shock humor and prolific virality. Miller’s videos helped popularize the Harlem Shake, that contributed to the commercial success of Baauer’s song of the same name which led to the production of memes and collaborations with YouTubers. As Pink Guy, Miller released two comedy studio albums and an extended play between 2014 and 2017. In late 2017, Miller retired as a YouTuber to pursue a music career under the name Joji. His debut album, Ballads 1, was released in 2018 and featured the single “Slow Dancing in the Dark”. His second album, Nectar (2020), contained the singles “Sanctuary” and “Run”. In 2022, he released the US Billboard Hot 100 top-ten single “Glimpse of Us”, his highest-charting song, the song is set to be featured on his third album, Smithereens (2022). George Kusunoki Miller better known by his stage name Joji and formerly by his online aliases Filthy Frank and Pink Guy, is a Japanese singer-songwriter, record producer, author, and former Internet personality, YouTuber, and comedian. Miller’s began his career as an entertainer through his 3 respective, but now defunct YouTube channels: DizastaMusic, TVFilthyFrank, and TooDamnFilthy. They consisted of rap songs, swearing, rants, extreme challenges, ukulele performances and a shock humor show titled The Filthy Frank Show, with most of the main characters played by Miller, including the titular character of Filthy Frank. To complement his TVFilthyFrank channel, Miller produced comedy hip hop music under his Pink Guy alias, who is also a zentai-wearing recurring character on The Filthy Frank Show, with his songs featured on the show and his discography spanning two full-length projects and an extended play. In December 2017, Miller stated he had retired the channel to focus on his music career, under the name Joji, producing more nuanced and serious music, releasing the EP In Tongues, which peaked at number 58 on the Billboard 200, and his debut studio album BALLADS 1, which reached number 1 on Billboard’s top R&B and hip-hop chart in November 2018. With this, Miller became the first Asian-born artist to do so.
