Peru Edition

In the Peru Edition, three singer-songwriters, consisting of Yoon Sang, You Hee-yeol, and Lee Juck, went backpacking together to Peru. In this edition, their ultimate destination was Machu Picchu, which is located in the Cusco Region, Urubamba Province, Machupicchu District, above the Sacred Valley. Machu Picchu was built in the classical Inca style, with polished dry-stone walls. Its three primary structures are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. Most of the outlying buildings have been reconstructed in order to give tourists a better idea of how they originally appeared. it was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. In 2007, Machu Picchu also was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a worldwide Internet poll. In the first meeting of the three people making the trip and the show’s PD, Na PD met them at a restaurant. Na PD gave them their plane tickets, which indicated the flight time and place they were going to. All the cast concerned were surprised to see that they would be leaving on June 25, 2014, which meant they would go to Peru that same day. Their flight was scheduled at 4 PM, and it was already 2 PM, which meant they had to hurry to the airport right then, with no time to go home and pack. They had to go to Peru in the clothes they were wearing and with only whatever they were carrying on them. Apparently, that was what Na PD expected and was the concept of the event. On the way to the airport, all three casts were given an allowance for 10 days, which was 5017 sol (A little less than $1,500 USD), sol is the currency in Peru. The allowances included funds for food, accommodation, transport, sunblock, underwear, and miscellaneous items. They were not allowed to use their personal money or credit cards while in Peru, therefore the show’s staff took custody of the traveler’s wallets. They decided to go to an area called Huacachina and when they arrived they took rooms in an inn that also provided services to take them to the desert. The road in the desert is not flat, of course. There are hilly areas and valleys, it’s nice to see them riding in vehicles in the wilderness like riding a roller coaster in an amusement park. After a while, they tried sliding from top to bottom on the hills. They said it was a lot of fun even did it many times. Time didn’t feel so fast while they were having fun in the wilderness, and they enjoyed the sunset from the top of the desert, which was very beautiful. After finally arriving at Machu Picchu, they had to swallow their disappointment because the weather conditions at that time didn’t let them enjoy the beauty of the scenery at Machu Picchu. The place was filled with white fog so they couldn’t see anything through it. After seeing the situation, they decided to wait and hope the fog would soon disappear, but after a while, the fog seemed to get even thicker and their scenery increasingly blurred. Seeing this, You Hee-yeol said that he wanted to cry, “Actually, I felt like crying at that time. We’ve come all the way here for this, but we can’t see a thing.” he also added that he felt that nature taught him something, that not everything could go smoothly and this gave the message “it’s impossible to succeed in everything.” Although disappointed, in the end, they still waited a little longer for the sun to come out to eliminate the existing fog. While they were waiting and having their lunch, the sun and clouds began to appear. Seeing there was hope that the fog would soon disappear, they and the staff immediately rushed to re-challenge themselves to go up once again. A few steps before reaching the top, because they felt nervous, the three of them decided to join hands and only looked down at the ground they were walking on. They wanted to see the view of Machu Picchu together when they arrived and, together, they raised their heads. As they raised their heads, the three fell silent, smiling, adrift with very happy faces among the three of them. They claimed to be deeply moved by how extraordinary the view was, and the three of them slowly cried while staring at the view of Machu Picchu.

Laos Edition

Similar to the Peru edition of ‘Youth Over Flowers’, this time they abducted the cast members to Laos. ‘Youth Over Flowers’ Laos Edition, took three actors who played in the popular drama ‘Reply 1994’, the three actors were Yoo Yeon-seok, Baro ex-B1A4, and Son Ho-jun. On July 7, 2014, these three actors were meeting to do a CF shooting together. Of course, this was a setup the show’s staff used to deceive them. The filming they did was for the opening of the Laos Edition event. The ruse worked, and the new cast members did not have any preparation on that day. They went to Laos in the outfits they had suits for CF purposes and they were just told they were going to Laos for 10 days three hours before the scheduled flight. On the way to the airport, Na PD said that the weather in Laos was not good enough for traveling, that it rained and thundered almost every day and it was very hot there. The three of them arrived at a place called Blue Lagoon by bicycle. when they got there they were amazed by the view of the clear, blue water. Son Ho-jun said “This is too beautiful. After reaching Blue Lagoon, all of the tiredness gone in an instant. It seems like fairies would come out from there” Yoo Yeon-seok was also immediately encouraged by his adrenaline when he got to the Blue Lagoon. He started with some stretches before trying to jump from the height into the water. Even though Son Ho-jun was full of doubts, he also tried to follow Yoo Yeon-seok’s steps to jump from a height into the water even though he was still wearing a safety jacket. The maknae, Baro, did the same thing without hesitation. They even jumped together, while shouting ‘Youth Over Flowers.’ On their way to Blue Lagoon, after they finished Vang Vieng’s Sandwich, the staff rented a Buggy for the three of them, which was welcomed enthusiastically by the three actors, considering they really wanted to ride and drive it from yesterday. Because the conditions were so muddy, they had to drive while wearing a raincoat and glasses. The three of them claimed during their trip that they drank (accidentally) wastewater a lot. In the interview after the trip ended, the staff asked the actors why they never lacked money even though they ate a lot, and spent a lot. Yoo Yeon-seok initially answered that it was because they used the money wisely. However, it was pointed out that there were some irregularities and when Yoo Yeon-seok was asked what the total accommodation was at Vian Vieng for 3 days, Yoo Yeon-seok answered “around USD $30“, and the staff immediately asked “You count in US dollars?“, At that time Yoo Yeon-seok said that he paid for his accommodation with his own money.
