Lamont Marcell Jacobs 10 Fast Facts, Biography, Wiki

Jacobs lives in Rome with his partner, Nicole Daza, and their two children, Anthony (born 2019) and Megan (born 2021). Jacobs has another son, Jeremy (born 2013), born from a previous relationship when Jacobs was nineteen. Although Jacobs was born in the United States, he strictly identifies as being Italian. Jacobs had been estranged from his father since he was an infant; however, in 2020, he reestablished a relationship with him at the suggestion of his mental coach. He cited that reconciling with his father gave him the motivation and peace of mind he needed to focus on winning in the Olympics. Lamont Marcell Jacobs, born 26 September 1994, is an Italian male sprinter and long jumper. He won the 60 m title during the 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships. On 1 August 2021, Jacobs set a new 100 m European record with a time of 9.80 at the 2020 Olympics, winning the gold medal in the process. He is the first Italian to win the 100 m Olympic title. Jacobs closed the 2020–21 indoor season as World Leader of 60 meters. Italy’s Lamont Marcell Jacobs claimed a stunning victory to take the Olympic 100m title. The Texas-born sprinter clocked 9.80 seconds in Tokyo on Sunday to finish ahead of the USA’s Fred Kerley and Canada’s Andre De Grasse. Jacobs became the first man to win the 100m other than Usain Bolt since Justin Gatlin in 2004. The race, which featured a new generation of sprinters, was the first without three-time champion Usain Bolt since the 2004 Athens Games. Jacobs, age 26, was viewed as a surprise contender in the race which saw American Fred Kerley take the silver medal and Canadian Andre de Grasse win bronze. The world record for the race was set by Bolt, who retired after the 2017 world championships, with a time of 9.58 seconds. Son of an Italian mother and an African American father, Lamont Marcell Jacobs was born in El Paso, Texas, where he spent his first 18 months. When his father, a United States Army soldier, was transferred to South Korea, he moved to Desenzano del Garda with his mother. He began competing in athletics there at the age of ten, initially preferring sprinting, then discovering the long jump in 2011. He later moved to Rome, where he lives with his partner Nicole and his two children, Anthony (born 2019) and Megan (born 2021). Jacobs has a son, Jeremy (born 2013), from a previous relationship when he was 19. In 2016, Jacobs won the Italian Athletics Championships in the long jump. With a personal best of 8.07 m, he ranked at a tenth place on the IAAF world-leading list at the end of the 2017 indoor season. At the 2016 Italian U23 Championships he jumped 8.48 m, the best performance for an Italian, although this result cannot be recognized as a national record due to the wind in favor of 2.8 m/s (the regulation limit is 2.0 m/s). On 13 May 2021, in Savona, Italy, he set the Italian record in the 100 meters with a time of 9.95 s,[10] becoming the 150th person in history to break the 10-second barrier. On 26 June 2021, notwithstanding a headwind of −1.0 m/s, he beat the Italian championships’ record with a time of 10.01 s, in Rovereto, winning his fourth national title in a row. When questioned about his origins, he said he feels 100% Italian, admitting he is not very good at speaking English. He became the 2020 men’s 100 m Olympic champions on 1 August 2021.
