The music festival should have been celebrated with entertaining performances, but technical glitches, awful camera settings, and numerous lip sync accidents marred the year-ending festival. On the good side, the festival marked the official comeback of veteran singer Uhm Jung-hwa after an eight-year hiatus. Another notable performance was a dance festival of recently debuted idol groups. All 91 of the idols collaborated in performing synchronized dancing while also giving spotlight to each of the idol groups to showcase their trademark dance moves. At the end, Big Bang completed the forgettable event with unforgettable stage performance. In this article, Channel-Korea will talk about the best moments and legendary performances from SBS Gayo Daejun 2016. So stay tuned!

The camera continuously moved from the boy team to the girl team, and then back to the boy team. Each team showed powerful street dance moves. All the performers were dressed in black and red outfits. After introductory dance moves, all the performers moved to the center stage and paired up with other team members. The boy team performed better and showed a much more powerful dance compared to the girl team.

The star of the red carpet event was none other than EXO. Each member was dressed in a grey striped suit, black suit, or combination grey striped pants and grey jacket. They looked mature and stylish. Kai stood out the most with his tall figure and striped suit. Solo singer and former idol HyunA looked dazzling and glamourous in her shiny pink-purplish outfit. Bigbang

There is no better way to end a K-Pop music event than with a Big Bang performance. As usual, Big Bang delivered the most memorable performance in the evening when technical problems and awful program management ruined the whole evening. The group performed three songs: Last Dance, Fxxx It, and Bang Bang Bang.

SHINee

SHINee performed two songs, Prism and Tell Me What To Do, on Gayo Daejun 2016. One by one, each member was hoisted to the stage and gathered at the center stage. All the members were dressed in red jackets and black pants. SHINee looked very masculine in the red suits.

BTS

Suga was absent from Gayo Daejun 2016 because of an injury. However, his position was filled by back up dancers. Each member showed their charisma and entertained the crowds with their choreography. The atmosphere was improved and raised when BTS performed Fire with their thumping dance. Before their group performance, Jin performed a piano solo and Rap Monster performed a rap solo. To sum it up, BTS’s performance was always electrifying, but there was lack of improvement in their choreography and song arrangement. They always did the same performance each and every time.

EXO

EXO deserved to be called the most anticipated performers in Gayo Daejun 2016. Their stage performance must be placed in the highlight reel. Crowds were cheering loudly throughout their performance. EXO performed Monster with their strong and energetic choreography. Crowds in the stadium and viewers in front of TV must all have been nodding their heads to the beat throughout their performance. In the middle of their performance, Baekhyun took center stage and did a dance solo. At the end, Kai and Sehun performed a sexy dance duo while One & Only was played in the background. Kai and Sehun danced as water was falling on to their bodies in a theatrical fashion. It was an eye feast for the female members of the audience.

MAMAMOO

MAMAMOO performed You’re The Best and Decalcomanie at 2016 SBS Gayo Daejun. Among all the performers, MAMAMOO didn’t hesitate to perform in front of Big Bang seats, and moved to center stage. The group entertained the crowd with a live performance that was filled with their high vocal range and speed rapping. All of MAMAMOO’s members are very talented singers, and they didn’t need any backup dancers or sophisticated choreography to support their performance. Compared to some other girl-groups, they have a slightly less appealing appearance, but they compensated for it by having an incredible vocal range and excellent vocal technique. Each of MAMAMOO’s members stood out with their unique vocal talent.

GOT7

GOT7 performed Fly and Hard Carry with upbeat tempo and powerful choreography. All the members wore tight, black outfits that oozed confidence and energy. However, their stage outfits seemed too simple and monotonous for a big event like Gayo Daejun 2016

Seventeen

Seventeen performed covers of popular songs from Girls’ Generation, SES, and Lee Hyori. They entertained the crowds with simple dance chorepgraphy and without additional backup dancers. However, their stage outfits looks too similar and cheap-looking compared with other idol groups’ costumes.

BLACKPINK

BLACKPINK performed Whistles and Playing With Fire. Their stage outfits stood out from the other girl-groups. Rose and Lisa wore floral-patterned dresses, while Jennie and Jisoo wore a combination of black and white shirts. As usual, Jennie surprised the crowds with her rapping skill and powerful dance moves. Rose also stood out when singing her verse. They started with the catchy and playful tune, Whistles, and continued with a strong and energetic performance of Playing With Fire. Their stage movements were variable, and they moved to all corners of the stage.

TWICE

Twice had to endure the embarrassment of technical problems. Instead of playing the intro of their song TT, the program director played a GFriend song. Not to be deterred by the problem, TWICE performed and entertained the audience with their playful choreography. They capped their performance with Cheer Up, pulling screams from the audience. During TWICE’s performance, other girl-group members were seen immersed in the group’s performance, unconsciously following their choreography. TWICE came on stage wearing all-white outfits. However, compared to GFriend, each their clothes had different style that matched each member’s appearance and personality. Among the girl-group performers, TWICE easily stood out as one of the best stage performances in SBS Gayo Daejun 2016.

Red Velvet

Red Velvet performed 7 Days 7 Nights and Russian Roulette. The girl-group came onstage wearing pastel blue shirts and pastel red skirts. The girls looked super girly and feminine. Red Velvet started their performance with a short version of the sad and melancholic ballad 7 Days 7 Nights. Their second number was their popular hit song Russian Roulette, with the catchy tune, easy listening melody, and simple choreography are Red Velvet trademarks. The girls showed a simple and unforgettable performance in Gayo Daejun 2016. Seulgi should earn special praise for her eye-catching dance and playful look at the camera throughout Red Velvet’s performance.

GFriend

Gfriend performed a short medley of their hit songs Navillera and Rough. Both of the songs had similar catchy tunes. Eunha of Gfriend greeted and sung the first verse of Navillera while other members were hoisted to the center. They joined Eunha at the front of the stage. GFriend was dressed in all-white marching-band-inspired outfits.

A-Pink

A-Pink went to the stage performing Only Once and Cause You’re My Star. They were dressed in school-uniform style outfits. Bomi was the star of A-Pink’s performance with her beautiful face, shining makeup, and cute ponytail hairstyle
