Story Behind More & More by TWICE

Nine months after TWICE released Feel Special, there had been buzzing rumors that TWICE will be having a comeback later in the summer since some members dyed their hairs in new vibrant colors. Shortly after, it was revealed by the K-pop media sites that TWICE were flying out to Jeju Island to shoot their title track music video. It was also reported by a Twitch streamer Jinnytty that TWICE booked a whole resort to film their newest tropical-themed music video. This news shortly became a trending topic on SNS, as many were speculating that TWICE would have a comeback in the summer.  During TWICE’s documentary Seize The Lights press conference on April 28th, 2020, Jihyo as the group leader confirmed that TWICE will be having a comeback on June 1st, 2020. Later that day, it was also revealed that the title of the album will be More & More. This was also the first time TWICE made a comeback with all the nine members since Mina had taken a break from promotional activities last year due to health issues. On May 11th, TWICE announced the contents of the physical album through JYP Entertainment’s official Twitter account. At the same time, they also began to take pre-orders. Between May 14th and May 23rd, JYP Entertainment continuously released individual concept photos and videos from the More & More teaser photos and video as a way of presenting the new TWICE album branding.

On May 18th, the official tracklist was revealed through JYP Entertainment’s Twitter account. It was revealed that there will be seven songs in the mini-album. The album was officially launched on June 1st, 2020. On the same day, the music video of “More & More” was also uploaded on YouTube. TWICE officially began the mini-album promotional activities by performing the title track “More & More” live for the first time in M! Countdown on June 4th, 2020. This also marked their first time performing without any audience presence due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Production of More & More by TWICE

A few weeks before the album release, JYP Entertainment uploaded the tracks sneak peek. Check it out!

More and More consists of seven tracks. The songs in the mini-album feature many different musical genres. Most of the tracks are pop, but the album also includes Latin-pop, bass music, swing, and tropical house. Different from any previous albums, More & More also pursues a more bold and hippie concept in their album photoshoots.  It was mentioned by Nayeon that the main concept of the mini-album was: “Reflecting one’s desire to get to know the person you fell in love with.”  The lead single “More and More” was written by PD-nim J.Y. Park and BIBI. The production of the track also marks TWICE’s first time collaborating with world-class singer-songwriters MNEK, Julia Michaels, and Zara Larsson. Side-tracks of More and More were composed and arranged by many well-known international musicians, such as LDN Noise, Hayden Chapman, BB Diamond, and Shift K3Y. Unlike any other previous albums, not all TWICE members were able to make contributions to the songwriting process this time. In this project, it was only Nayeon, Chaeyoung, and Jeongyeon who had a chance to contribute. Nayeon wrote the lyrics to “Make Me Go”, while Jeongyeon and Chaeyoung wrote the lyrics to “Sweet Summer Day”.
