Le was born to Vietnamese and Chinese parents. He attended Sierra Vista High School, where he was on the basketball team. Le attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) before dropping out during his first year to pursue his online career full-time. RiceGum was born on November 19, 1996 at Las Vegas. He comes from an economically modest household, and lives with his parents and siblings somewhere in Nevada. He has uploaded many videos describing his parents to be loving and caring. He keeps his private and professional life separate to avoid exposing his family to vulgar comments from other YouTubers. Although his mother wanted him to be a doctor, he focused more on developing an internet career. In many video posts, RiceGum states that living with parents is beneficial as one does not need to pay the rent. Before reaching 10 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, RiceGum claimed to have turned down a Harvard Scholarship on his Twitter account so he could continue his YouTube channel.
