Before debuting as a member of Rocket Punch and becoming the Yunkyoung from Rocket Punch that we know, Yunkyoung was just a little girl from Chipyeong-dong, Gwangju. She was born on November 1st, 2001, with the name Seo Yunkyoung. She lived with her parents along with her older brother. She happened to be the only daughter in her house. While Yunkyoung was in middle school, she was in the broadcasting department and she was the engineer manager. She once joined a competition where she took a video and she won the grand prize from that competition. Yunkyoung probably didn’t expect to be an idol at first. After she graduated from middle school, she went to the vocational all-girls high school in her hometown. She joined the Tax Finance Administration department. However, in 2017, she got street-cast by the staff from Woollim Entertainment. No wonder the staff recognized her and asked her to join an audition, Yunkyoung was already pretty since she was young. Finally, she moved to Seoul and became a trainee at Woollim Entertainment in 2017. Since she was still in high school at that time, and of course, she couldn’t go to her school which was located in Gwangju, Yunkyoung transferred to a school in Seoul. Thus, she had to quit the department of Tax Finance Administration that she went to before. However, transferring to a new school wasn’t easy as it seems. Yunkyoung who became a trainee and needed to focus on training her skills in various fields such as dancing, vocals, etc., had to go to a school that could adjust to the tight schedule of a trainee. There are some performing arts high schools in Seoul, one of them is the Seoul of Performing Arts high school, the same school popular idols such as Kai from EXO, BTS’s Jungkook, Mark, Haechan, Jaemin, and Jeno from NCT Dream, etc. have attended. Yunkyoung targetting that school, but she didn’t pass the test at first. That could be because she was a new trainee at that time, she still lacked something when she was being interviewed. At first, Yunkyoung applied for the Practical Music department, which she didn’t enter. After that, she tried out again and applied to another department, which is the Film and Theater department. But the result was still the same. Finally, in 2019, the year in which Yunkyoung made her debut with Rocket Punch, Yunkyoung tried another department which is the Practical Dance department. Yunkyoung passed the test, and she was so excited about it. That’s how Yunkyoung finally graduated high school. Before she officially graduated, Yunkyoung took the university entrance test in 2020. Rocket Punch’s Yunkyoung’s Debut
There are a lot of K-pop idols who had to wait for over three years to debut. However, there are also those who have debuted after being a trainee only for a short time. As for Yukyoung, her trainee life wasn’t too long but wasn’t too short either. She spent around two years being a trainee. After that, in 2019, she debuted officially in Rocket Punch. In July 2019, Woollim Entertainment revealed that they would be debuting a new girl group soon. The six members were also revealed one by one starting from August 1st, 2019. The new girl group that was later on called Rocket Punch made its official debut on August 7th, 2019. They released their first mini-album titled Pink Punch.
