Sam Mostyn is a non-executive director and sustainability adviser, with a long history of executive and governance roles across business, sustainability & climate change, sport, the arts, policy, and civil society. Her current Chair roles include Citi Australia, the GO Foundation, ANROWS, the Australian Women Donors Network, the Foundation for Young Australians, Ausfilm and Alberts. Sam’s board roles include Mirvac, Transurban and the Centre for Policy Development. She joined the board of the Sydney Swans in 2017, after over a decade serving as a Commissioner with the Australian Football League. Sam has a long-held interest in climate change and sustainability, currently serving on the boards of Climateworks Australia and The Climate Council. She was also a founding supporter and Chair of the women’s climate action group 1 Million Women and serves on the Australian faculty of the Cambridge University Business & Sustainability Leadership Program. During her time as a senior executive at Insurance Australia Group, Sam developed an environmental & social sustainability program for the company and in 2006 helped form the Australian Business Roundtable on Climate Change, calling for a price on carbon, and climate adaptation plans for Australia. After the promulgation of the UN SDGs, Sam was a member of the Global Business & Sustainable Development Commission and worked with Global Compact Australia in partnership with the Australian Council for International Development to advance work on the SDGs in Australia. Sam was a member of the National Sustainability Council and currently the National Sustainable Development Council, chaired by Professor John Thwaites, and is a member of the advisory board of the Monash Sustainable Development Institute. She served on the Qld Government’s Climate Change Council and continues to serve on the NSW Government’s Climate Change Council. In 2018, Sam was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws by the Australian National University, in recognition of her work as a pioneer of gender inclusion and equity, and leadership in sustainability and climate change. Sam was named Winner – Individual, in the IGCC 2019 Climate Awards. Her corporate roles have encompassed human resources, culture change, corporate and government affairs, community engagement and corporate sustainability. She has previously served as President of the Australian Museum, was an inaugural Commissioner with the National Mental Health Commission and was Deputy Chair of the Diversity Council of Australia.

Sam Mostyn is a non-executive director and sustainability adviser and speaker, with a long history of sports governance. Her current board roles include Mirvac, Transurban and Virgin Australia, and she is the Chair of Citi Australia. She joined the board of the Sydney Swans in 2017, after over a decade serving as a Commissioner with the Australian Football League. In 2005 she was the first woman to be appointed to the Commission where she was an advocate for the Respect & Responsibility Policy for the inclusion of women at all levels of the AFL. In 2009, Sam was a member of the Crawford Review expert panel which examined sports funding in Australia. Her corporate roles have encompassed human resources and culture change, corporate and government affairs, community engagement and corporate sustainability. Sam is legally trained, and worked as a policy advisor to then Prime Minister Paul Keating, before joining the corporate world. Her senior executive roles were with Optus Communications, Cable & Wireless plc, and Insurance Australia Group. Sam has served on the boards of Reconciliation Australia, the Australian Museum, the Sydney Theatre Company and now chairs Carriageworks and between 2013-2017 was President of the Australian Council for International Development. She was an inaugural commissioner with the National Mental Health Commission, and served on the National Sustainability Council. In 2016 Sam was appointed to the Global Business Commission on Sustainable Development, and has been a faculty member of the Cambridge Business Sustainability Program since 2012. She is the Deputy Chair of the Diversity Council of Australia, and serves on the board of the GO Foundation, founded by Adam Goodes and Michael O’Loughlin to provide education scholarships to indigenous students. Sam is married to Simeon Beckett, and has an 18 year old daughter, Lotte.
