TWICE’s Pre-Debut Era
SIXTEEN was held by collaboration between JYP Entertainment and Mnet and resulted in the successful girl group TWICE with nine members: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. This group was manifested by Park Jin-young. He wanted to build a girl group that could be as popular as Girls’ Generation. Do you think he did?
TWICE’s Members’ Pre-Debut Stories
TWICE was formed after the survival show SIXTEEN. This girl group competition show consisted of 16 talented young girls from JYP Entertainment’s trainees. The group’s popular songs include “Likey” and “TT” that exceeded a hundred millions view. TWICE’s debut song “Like Ooh-Ahh” also easily got 100 million views after the debut promotion. TWICE is known as a girl group of visuals. The members are incredibly eye-catching with their songs and stole the spotlight right away. TWICE’s Nayeon’s Pre-Debut
Nayeon was found by the casting director when she joined a child modeling competition. However, her mother wasn’t allowing her to sign any contracts. Later on, in 2010, she took the opportunity to audition for the 2010 JYP 7th Open Audition without telling. She succeeding in placing second among 30,000 applicants. During her trainee period, Nayeon signed to some brands such as Smart School Uniform and also got a small role in Dream High 2. Look at cute, small Nayeon! Isn’t she adorable?
TWICE’s Jeongyeon’s Pre-Debut
Jeongyeon also became a trainee when she was young. She entered the 6th JYP Open Audition and got accepted. Here’s a photo of when she was a child with her family; she was in the middle. Adorable, right? Beauty runs in her family genes.
TWICE’s Momo’s Pre-Debut
Momo comes from Kyoto, Japan, and she has loved dancing since she was three years old. She was scouted because of her dance video online. Momo was contacted by JYP to do an audition, and she passed. Moreover, she was young. Momo also appeared in Lexy’s music video named “Ma People.” Doesn’t she look incredible?
TWICE’s Sana’s Pre-Debut
Same as Momo, Sana also comes from Japan. She studied at a dance academy in Osaka since sixth grade. She was scouted by the JYP casting manager to try a global audition.
TWICE’s Jihyo’s Pre-Debut
Jihyo is the longest trainee of TWICE. She entered JYP Entertainment when she was 9 years old and had trained for over 10 years. She became a trainee after becoming the winner of the Junior Naver Child Acting Star Competition. She trained alongside some of K-pop’s second-generation stars from JYP Entertainment like Wondergirls and Miss A.
TWICE’s Mina’s Pre-Debut
Mina is another Japanese member of the group. Mina is talented in ballet after studying at Obayashi Sacred Heart School, one of the prestigious schools in Tokyo. She was found by a casting manager while shopping at Osaka’s Hankyu Umeda store.
TWICE’s Dahyun’s Pre-Debut
Dahyun was found by the casting manager while she performed in a church with the eagle dance.
She went viral with the video performance that shows her catchy, strong choreography.
TWICE’s Chaeyoung’s Pre-Debut
Chaeyoung also has a strong dance talent and studied in a dance academy. Chaeyoung joined an audition after she finished her dance academy.
TWICE’s Tzuyu’s Pre-Debut
Tzuyu was discovered through a dancing video by the JYP team. This video made the casting director visit her in Taiwan all the way from Korea.
