You probably wondered how Dongheon got into Verivery and even be the leader of his group. Of course, every big achievement requires a small step, and for Dongheon, it all started in his childhood. So, let’s dig into the past when Dongheon was a child! Some K-pop idols use a stage name when they debut, as for Dongheon, he decided to use his real name instead. Dongheon was born with the name Lee Dongheon on August 4th, 1995. He was born and raised in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. Since he took the leader part of Verivery, you probably think that he’s also a firstborn in his family. But he’s not, Dongheon has an older sister who was born in 1993. He also has a younger brother who was born in 2002. As you can see, Dongheon is the middle child of his family. He lived in Andong along with his parents and siblings. The start of Dongheon’s career as an idol was when he dreamed of becoming a singer. At first, when Dongheon was in elementary school, he wanted to be a video designer. But TVXQ’s performance changed his mind, he added one more dream job to not only becoming a video designer, but also a singer. Seeing TVXQ perform a song titled “HUG” made him want to be on stage just like them. SEVERAL TIMES TVXQ GOT TIRED AND ANGRY OF THEIR SASAENG FANS When he was in high school, Dongheon tried to perform at the music festival and sing. He really enjoyed the crowd’s attention to his performance, just like what he has been dreaming about since a child. With that, he truly believes that he was probably meant to be a singer. Dongheon started to audition for companies when he was in high school. In 2013, he got accepted as an SM Entertainment trainee, one of the biggest K-pop agencies in the K-pop industry. There, he met and became friends with some trainees that later on we know as NCT’s Doyoung, RAVN from ONEUS, and SF9’s Inseong. Fun fact, they entered SM Entertainment at the same time too. It’s such a blessing that Dongheon entered the company of his idol when he was a child, TVXQ. That was a sign that he probably could be just like his idol, TVXQ. As you can see, starting from 2013, SM Entertainment released their trainees and named the group SMROOKIES. However, Dongheon wasn’t revealed as one of the members of SM Rookies at that time. This probably meant that he had left the company. But still, Dongheon’s journey to be an idol didn’t stop there. He also performed as a backup dancer before he finally moved to the agency that later enabled his debut as an idol. Sadly, he had to leave SM Entertainment for some reasons. But he moved to Jellyfish Entertainment where he met and became friends with the trainees whom we now know as the other Verivery members. And the rest is history.
